RedRoc Farm

Nestled in the woods of Pickens, SC is a very special pig farm. Brothers, Nathan and Matt Lucas, are the type of people who believe if they're going to do something, they're going to do it right.

And boy do they do pig farming right! When they were young and impressionable, their uncle had some piglets and offered one to the boys. And their father quickly and adamantly responded "no, not ever". Well, it took over 50 years to rebel against Dad's old rule, but they finally did it!

Now this family is completely dedicated to their precious pigs. They have misters and fans to keep cool in the summer, heating pads and a wood stove to keep warm in the winter, and a nice bed of soft sand to keep them extra comfy in the birthing barn. Overcrowding? Never an issue for them. They keep their numbers small to ensure that each pig gets the best treatment.

The pigs sleep and eat indoors for safety and spend their days frolicking through a beautiful forest of mud wallows. These pigs are HUGE. Mothers weigh in at about 700 lbs. RedRoc Farm is so dedicated to the welfare and health of their animals they they purchase only soy-free, organic feed, even though it costs over 5 times that of regular pig feed and has to be shipped in from Kentucky! Although neither brother lives at this farm, when the sows give birth, Matt will stay on the property for weeks to give 24 hour attention to the vulnerable piglets.
